Overview
This eight days Rwanda – Uganda Adventure Safari starts in Kigali and ends in Entebbe International Airport. Meet eye to eye with the amazing gorillas of Uganda and chimpanzees of Rwanda in their natural habitat, one of Africa's major highlights. This close encounter with these amazing apes is simply breathtaking. Also get a close encounter with other diverse African wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and amazing culture and if you are a keen Birder, this is the place to be. Experience the wonder of the World’s renowned Murchison Falls as it squeezes through the narrow gorge. 

Day1: Arrival in Kigali International Airport – Afternoon visit to Genocide memorial museum and Optional Nyamirambo Township Drive

Day2: Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park with a 1hour stopover in Butare for lunch and cultural drumming activity– Afternoon Optional Canopy Walk

Day1: Arrival in Kigali International Airport – Afternoon visit to Genocide memorial museum and Optional Nyamirambo Township Drive

Meet and greet at Kigali International Airport where your Rwanda – Uganda Adventure Safari starts by our representative who will warmly welcome you and facilitate seamless arrival formalities. Your will then be transferred to your hostel where you will be briefed about your adventure safari. Depending on the time of arrival you are advised to have money Changed on this day.

You may have Lunch in a selected Restaurant in town (at your own expense) and proceed to Genocide memorial center where we shall learn of the Political, social and economic History of the Hutus and Tutsi tribe prior to the Genocide, Have a guided marvel through the breath taking museum and proceed to shopping malls or sample more food, and craft markets for souvenir shopping.

Time allowing, you can have an optional leisure drive through Nyamirambo Township – this is the oldest town in Kigali which has a unique stretched neighborhood found in southwestern corner of Kigali that envelopes diverse behavior with dominancy of Arab – like Culture. It is a huge stretched corner which is sometimes referred to as a gangsters’ Paradise! Characterized with Many Muslim residents, Mosques and unlike other places that close by 8pm with everyone inside their homes, Nyamirambo hustles and rocks late into the nights.

Day2: Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park with a 1hour stopover in Butare for lunch and cultural drumming activity– Afternoon Optional Canopy Walk

After breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe forest which is South West of Rwanda and Have an optional visit the ethnographic Museum to learn about the history of the people of Rwanda as well as East Africa as a whole, later have lunch in Inzozi nziza restaurant in Huye/Butare where you will too watch the Ingoma Nschya women’s group initiate in Rwanda – This is Rwanda's first-ever women's drumming group which actively involves women's participation in the cultural development of Rwanda. Ingoma Nschya has the twin goals of healing and women's empowerment by using positive methods to reconcile with the violent past of their country and personal tragedies, proceed arriving and checking into the lodge on the fringes of the awe –inspiring forest as you prepare for a great walking safari in the Forest the following day!

Optional Afternoon activity, After a Hot lunch at the Lodge, we will drive to Uwinka, the main reception center of the park, and set out for the canopy walk to experience at an extra fee of $60 per person which will give us a different perspective of the park – the Canopy Walkway is a highlight of a Nyungwe Safari and hangs 60 meters above the forest floor between giant trees and towers, this is East Africa's only Canopy Walkway that provides a stunning view of the park's amazing wildlife and nature. The Walkway accesses several trails including the famous Igishigishigi trail if one is interested in hiking one! Enjoy epic views of the Nyungwe forest and catch elusive wildlife in the canopies such as monkeys and birds!

Day3: Morning Chimpanzee Trekking and Afternoon Transfer to Ruhengeri

After early breakfast we will transfer to the nearest reception center in Nyungwe forest by 5am to meet the ranger guides for the pre-trek briefing and there after drive to the start point of trekking in the Nyungwe forest to track the Wild naughty but yet very interesting chimpanzees – Nyungwe Rainforest is a haven for primates and believed to be one of the oldest forests in Africa and still remains ever green with an untouched natural rainforest that is filled with exciting biodiversity that includes habituated chimpanzees and 12 other primates species (including a 400-strong troop of habituated Ruwenzori Black & White Colobus), it’s also a birder’s paradise with over 300 species, including 16 endemics, and is home to 75 different species of mammals. After the locating the cheeky wild elements of the park, you will have only one hour to observe them as you exercise a great ideal with great photogenic shots with them

Finally slope down to the hotel for lunch and afternoon transfer to Ruhengeri reaching late afternoon for dinner and overnight stay. Enjoy the view of the surrounding and feel the breeze of the Volcano National Park

Day4: Hike to the Dian Fossey Grave – Afternoon Transfer to Kisoro/Mutanda

Have morning Breakfast at the lodge and transfer from park headquarters to the trail head to access the karisoke research Camp which is about 10 minutes from the park boundary. Trekking to the Dian Fossey’s grave takes about one and half to 2 hour hike which too rewards you with good views of forest hogs, forest elephants, a variety of primates and bird species.

This hike is an incredible experience physically, emotionally and intellectually. It is so inspiring to learn about someone who was so dedicated and left a legacy that exists even today. The hike involves moving through the forests and hiking up the slopes and therefore requires some relative degree of fitness and patience.

At the site you will find the house from where Dian Fossey was mysteriously murdered in 1985 but the more peaceful is the place where she was buried just next to her favorite gorilla friend, Digit and about 20 other mountain gorillas either killed by poachers or suffered death for other reasons unknown.

Later slope down to the lodge and enjoy a hot lunch – then Proceed to cross the border to Ugandan side enjoying a very spectacular scenic view of Lake Mutanda – Lake Mutanda is nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountain Range, at an altitude of 1,800 meters (5,900 ft.) your stay around the lake will reward you with a good view of three volcanoes

(Mount Muhabura, Mount Sabinyo and Mount Gahinga) as well as the spectacular islands in the lake. The lake is drained by the Rutshuru River, which flows northward to Lake Edward.

Day5: Ultimate Gorilla Tracking – Afternoon Mikozi Village Community Visit

After an early breakfast depart to the starting point for briefing about your gorilla trekking adventure after which you will be led by experienced gorilla trackers on the slopes of the volcanoes. You will start from the site where the gorillas were encountered the day before and from here the gorilla tracking begins.

Although the hike can be physically demanding, the anticipation of the exciting experience ahead is amazing, and the beauty of the gorilla forest and its inhabitants are fascinating. One of Africa’s major highlights is when you encounter these gentle apes. It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat rest, play and bond with their young ones. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest, and discover their gorgeous natural habitual and the many species they share it with. You are allowed an hour with the gorillas before finally sloping down back to your lodge. If your trek was relatively short, you may have a guided nature walk around the lodge and the surrounding communities in the evening. Return to the lodge where you will enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers before getting a good night’s rest for tomorrow's safari adventure.

You may opt for Gorilla Habituation on supplement of $900 per person – here you will be sure of meeting and spending enough time with the Gorillas.

Don’t forget to carry your rain gear, packed lunch, plenty of water, gloves, hat, and water proof bag for protection of your camera in case of rain  

Have Lunch at the lodge or while still in the jungle and enjoy an afternoon marvel through wooded trees over the mystical lake and wave to the local fishermen and children going to school. We join Mikozi Village where we unequivocally get acquainted with the authentic Ugandan countryside life. We visit a traditional Ugandan 'healer', the market and sample a local drink in the bar.

Day6: Early Morning transfer to Queen Elizabeth through Ntungamo, Ishasha Plains via Katunguru – Most likely to see Tree Climbing Lions – Afternoon Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel

After your early Morning breakfast pack-up your bags and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park through Ntungamo –Ishasha Plains, a Sector in Queen Elizabeth, Enjoy the wilderness and its habitants that are highlighted by Uganda’s Tree Climbing Lions as well as numerous Birds and more Mammals. You may be able to sport the park’s famous tree climbing lions with the help of your guide as you enroute the peninsular

Proceed to the lodge reaching early for an afternoon unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and this launch/cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous, with well over 550 resident species.

Day7: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Transfer to Entebbe

Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Have an early morning game drive where you have an opportunity to view the massive Rwenzori as backdrop, which provides excellent opportunities to spot lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephant, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi and bushbuck. The game drives and the boat trip (taken prior) are memorable methods of discovering a vast array of Ugandan wildlife. Be sure to have your camera ready for these amazing sightings!

Alternatively, you may opt to go for a balloon safari on payment of a supplement of $380 per person. Arise early in the morning and proceed to the starting point of your balloon safari at the Kasenyi gate of Queen Elizabeth NP at 5:30am. This early drive in the dark is a chance to see nocturnal animals that live in and around the park. You will meet your pilot and be given a safety briefing and instructions for boarding the balloon as well as landing procedures. The flight gives you great photo opportunities that are different from an ordinary safari on the ground. As you gently drift over the park, you can watch the sun rise as savannah below come to life with birds and animals. After landing, celebrate the flight with a glass of sparkling wine. After the toast, passengers sit down to a delectable bush breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge. The bush breakfast makes for a memorable ending to your ballooning adventure in Queen Elizabeth NP.

Have packed lunch and drive back to Kampala with a stopover at the Equator where you will have an opportunity to stand in 2 hemispheres at the same time. Take some photos, then another stop over at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers where you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through the generations arriving Entebbe early afternoon.

Day8: Spend the whole day on Chimps Close up in Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (Zoo) or Have Optional Keeper Experience

Have breakfast and visit the Uganda Wildlife Education center (UWEC) where you are sure of closely encountering mammals, primates, plants and bird species that include the Albertine endemic shoebill all in captivity among other wildlife species. You will enjoy a chimp’s close up for 1 Hour and a full day keeper experience at the chimps section mainly – here you will have time to observe, prepare food and clean (this figure is inclusive of meals for clients)

However, depending on your flight time, you may choose to sum up your Rwanda – Uganda adventure with a sunset cruise on waters of Lake Victoria in Entebbe at an extra fee of $35per person where you may sample delicious fish still at your cost while there!
